Pakistan 2001

My first big trip to what is called the third world took me overland to distant Pakistan and particularly to Karakorum which some say are the most beautiful mountains on Earth. I was a very inexperienced photographer to say the least and the camera had a few glitches of its own so please excuse the quality of the photographs. Nevertheless, the place is so overwhelming that it can be felt despite the poor state of the photos.

Getting there

By bus to Istanbul, then by bus to Tehran, afterwards to Kerman and Zahedan... by bus, of course. Then by a taxi to the Pakistani border, by bus to Quetta and then by train to Rawalpindi. One can get there in less than ten days!

Mountains, particularly the Karakorum

Karakorum and Himalaya, what should I say more? We've been to a short trip to lake Saiful Maluk first and then headed straight to Gilgit and further north to Karimabad and finally walked up Rash Peak (5089 meters or 16700 feet above the sea level).

Football manufacturing

I am not sure about today but in 2001 Pakistan was the world's biggest producer of footballs. We saw how they were manufactured there.
